About the event

Alastair Greig is the author of The Road to Batemans Bay, which tells the story of competing ventures to create ‘the Great Southern Township’ on the South Coast of New South Wales in the early 1840s. Greig is an emeritus fellow in sociology at The Australian National University, and has also edited and contributed new chapters to the reissue of Bruce Hamon’s They Came to Murramarang, published by ANU Press in 2015. He is also the author of The Australian Way of Life (2013) and The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of (1995), as well as the co-author of Challenging Global Inequality (2007) and Inequality in Australia (2003).


In this talk, Alastair will share insights from his historical research into the local area.
